What to Expect from a Lake District Elopement
With its picturesque landscapes, tranquil lakes, and rolling hills, the Lake District is a natural beauty haven. It’s no surprise that couples, and elopement photographers, like me, from all over the world flock to this romantic locale for their happily ever after.
If you are planning your dream elopement then I am going to tell you what to expect from a Lake District elopement and show you images from the incredible day I experienced with Q&Z who eloped here.

Intimate Day
First of all, the beauty of a Lake District elopement is the intimacy you can create. Q&Z had just her brother and two friends as the rest of their family zoomed in from home, overseas!
You can invite anyone you want to your elopement, or no one at all – it is all about you and the memories you want to create.
The Ideal Location
The Lake District has a plethora of stunning elopement locations. There is something for every couple, from dramatic mountain peaks and secluded lakeshores to enchanting forests and charming villages.
There are beautiful lakes like Lake Windermere which is where Q&Z enjoyed a romantic boat trip! You can’t go wrong with what this place has to offer for a truly unique experience.
Incredible Venues
There are many incredible wedding venues in the Lake District, ideal for an elopement.
Choosing the right venue for you is important, or if you prefer, you can elope in the outdoors and take in every ounce of fresh air and scenery this place has to offer you. Here are some venues you can check out to help you with your search:
- The Merewood Hotel – this is where Q&Z got married. It is a country house hotel with charm with scenic beauty all around. The Hotel stands on its own secluded estate, overlooking Lake Windermere – it is so stunning!
- The Gilipn Lake House – with its private lake, boats, and extensive grounds, this venue is a stunning, romantic setting for a special elopement ceremony.
- The Hidden River Cabins offer log cabins and a stunning river running through the grounds.
- The Haweswater Hotel is a hidden treasure and could be one of the best mountain view hotels in the lakes. This location is a little more secluded than others and provides a very intimate but dramatic setting for your Lake District elopement.
Elopement Photography
Capturing the beautiful and fun moments to cherish for a lifetime is one of the most important aspects of your elopement. As your photographer, we will discuss a shot list and I will get to know about you and the day you have planned, to ensure your memories are captured in the most authentic and documentary way possible.
I make sure that we are all comfortable in each other’s presence, and I will be completely myself. So, if you don’t take yourself too seriously, we will get on just fine!
Capturing your day as it flows naturally is key – I implement my documentary wedding photography style, where I capture the details, the emotions and the moments that take place during your unique elopement.
The Weather
The weather in the Lake District can be unpredictable, so keep the time of year in mind when planning your Lake District elopement.
When it rains or the skies darken and become moody, it creates a soft light that allows us to create some unique and amazing photos. As I always tell my couples, embrace the weather for what it is and we will create magic – which is exactly what Q&Z did during their day – they fully embraced it!
True Adventure
A Lake District elopement allows you to immerse yourself in nature, which creates an adventure you will never forget! You have so much freedom, and that is perfect for an elopement, so you can celebrate the day you have always dreamt of.
